Till 1812 you can find the names of the family in the Registrar’s Office. Before 1812 you can find the names in the Marriage- and Baptismbooks of the Churches. Till  1700 very easy to find the names. Before 1700 it becomes more difficult. The names in the Marriage- and Baptismbooks are not writing well. The ancestor of our family is Arien Wouterse Truyer (Trueren). In his birth-certificate is to read:  “Arien Wouterse Truyer”. His children are named Treuren and their children are named “van Treuren”. By mine research I come across the names Treur, Treure, Truer, Treuren, Truren, Truuren, van Treure, and van Treuren. We have proved that there is a connection between the names. How we have proved it, you can read it in this research. We proved it step by step.

When you meet a person with one of that names, ask for information. It must be family.

The eldest ancestor we have found is Cleas Treure, born circa 1540.

On the hands of the “old judicial archives” of Bergambacht (a little town in the Netherlands) and the notarial documents you have to combine and deduce to find the genealogy of your family.

In the marriagebook of  the Church stays in place of Wouter Arijense Treuren, Wouter Arijense de Jonge (the Young one). In the same time is living in Ouderkerk aan den IJssel “Ary Jacobsz Treuren”. It must be family.

Aims of the study:

  • The first target of the research was to find connection between the branch of “ Wouter Ariensz Treuren with his children named “van Treuren” and  the branch of “Ary Jacobsz Treuren”.
  • The second target is to look after a connection between all the names named above.

Results:

Step by step, we will show you how we achieved the above goals.

1.1

Arien Woutersz Truijer (Treuren) is the earliest known ancestor of our family that can be found on the basis of marriage and baptism books.

In the family tree you can see
the habit to name the eldest son
after his grandfather.

1.2
A member of the Genealogic Society has found a last will of Lijntje Ariens Comst, widow of  Wouter Jacobsz Truer. The last will is made on 28-05-1692 at Giessendam (notarial act 4019) In the last will is to read a refer to the children of Arien Woutersz Truer. Therefore we conclude that Arien Woutersz Truer is a son of Wouter Jacobsz Truer and of  Lijntje Ariens Comst.

In the “old judicial archives” of Bergambacht we have find  information about the family of Wouter Jacobsz Truer (Truyr).

Old Dutch is difficult to read. Typed at a typewriter you can read:

Translated in English :

Pieter Willemse, Jacob Willemse, Willem Pouwelse, Aagje Jacobs, widow of Gerrit Buijense, together heirs of Bouwen Gerrits, and also Pieter Willemse as having proxy of Jacob Lepelaer, married with Neeltje Jans, Jacob Wouterse TREUER, Arien Wouterse TREUR and Sijgje Wouters TREUR as heirs of Merrichghje Claes TREURE and have given in free  property on Merrichje Symons, widow of Claes TREURE, certain three quart part of a farmstead, large one and a half morning (Mergen or morgen is  an old measure that means morning. You can plough that piece of land in a morning.) grounds with buildings …………………………
Free from rent          4 June 1681

Conclusion:

  • Jacob Wouterse TREUER, Arien Wouterse TREUR and Sijgje Wouters TREUR are brothers and sister.
  • The family tree is:

1.3

The bold text shows that Marrigje Sijmons, widow and estate holder of Claasz Jacobs is TRUREN and is assisted by her daughter Zijgje Claas.

This results in the following family tree:

1.4

Translated in English:
Marrigje Sijmons widow and holder of the inventory of Claasz Jacobs TRUREN, assisted by her daughter Zijgje Claas.

Conclusion:

Uit de vetgedrukte tekst blijkt dat  Jacob Claasz, Pieter Claasz and Sygje (Zijgje) broers en zuster zijn.

Hieruit volgt de volgende stamboom:

1.5

Translation in English:
Bouwen Willemse, widower and holder of the inventory of Merrichje Claese TREURE

Conclusion:
Bouwen Willemse and Merrichje Claese TREURE were married.

1.6

Translation in English:
Jacob TREUR, for him self and as proxy for his brothers and sister
and
Jacob Wouterse TREUER, Arien Wouterse TREUR and for their sister Sijgje Wouters TREUR,
together heirs of Merrichje Claes.

Normally spoken: only children are heirs of their parents. Here above we see that there are two party’s for the inventory:

  • Jacob Treur with his brothers and sister
  • Jacob Wouterse Treurer, Arien Wouterse Treur and Sijgje Wouters Treur

How is that possible? This only exist when a married sister or aunt died without children. The inventory is going tot the elders  of those sister or aunt. When the elders are not more living, the inventory goes to the children of those elders.

The father of Jacob Wouterse Treurer, Arien Wouterse Treur and Sijgje Wouters Treur was Wouter Jacobsz Truyr.

The father of Jacob Treur with his brothers and sister was Claes Jacobsz Treure.
Looking after the habit to name the eldest son after his grandfather, we can concluded that the father of Claes Jacobsz Treure was Jacob Treure.

Merrichje Claes must be Merrichje Claese Treure. (See point 6)

Now we can make the following connection:

From this we can conclude that:

The father of Jacob Claesz Treure must be  Claes Treure (Claesz means son of Claes)

1.7

Connection of the branch “van Treuren” with the branch “Ary Jacobsz Treuren”.

We have found that Ary Jacobz Treuren is baptized at 5 September 1688 at Bergambacht. He is married with Neeltje Teunisse de Jong at 28 June 1709.

The first child is Nela Treuren, baptized at 29 December 1709. The  witness by the baptism were Jacob Claas Treure and Pieternelletje Lammers.

Conclusion:
Ary Jacobz Treuren must be a son of Jacob Claas Treure (nr. 342 in point 1.6)

This gives us the following family tree.

Now we have proved the connection between the branch “van Treuren” and the branch “Ary Jacobsz Treuren”. This was the first target from our research.

2.

Connection between the surnames “Treur”, “Treure”, “Truer”, “Treuren”, “Truren”, “Truuren”, “van Treure” and “van Treuren”.

On 6 October 1686 is born at Bergambacht a son of Jacob Claesz Trueren, named Claas. Jacob    Claesz Trueren (born circa 1655) must be the father of Claes (Jacobz) Treure  His named has chances in Claas Truren(Treuren). He is married with Grietje Franken.

Claas Jaobse Truren/Treuren  (nr 349) is the ancestor of the family Treur and Truren.
Now we have proved that the names Treur, Treure, Truer, Treuren, Truren, Truuren, van Treure, and van Treuren belongs to  the same family.
